Dr. Emmanuel Mwakiwa- Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension, University of Zimbabwe


Emmanuel Mwakiwa is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Business Development and Economics at the University of Zimbabwe. He is the Research Director for Zimbabwe in the Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes. Emmanuel has a PhD in Environment and Resource Economics from Wageningen University, Netherlands; An MSc Degree in Agricultural Economics and BSc Agriculture from the University of Zimbabwe. Emmanuel has over 25 years comprehensive experience in the development work in the following areas: agricultural policy analysis; economic development; food security; environment and natural resource management; rural livelihoods; climate change and community resilience. He has researched and written extensively in these areas in Africa.

He was the Principal Investigator for the ANAPRI Project called Shocks and Policy Responses involving the following countries Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. He was involved in the review of the Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources (CAMPFIRE). Emmanuel led the ANAPRI team in training on the Agricultural Innovation System’s Policy Practice Index (AIS-PPI) tool for the SADC and CORAF regions. AIS-PPI tool was developed by FARA. He also led a cross-country study that explored modalities for improving the implementation of existing policies to support cross-border trade in agricultural inputs and commodities for the SADC region.
