Agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa is undergoing significant changes, driven by a combination of rising rural populations, the emergence of investor farmers, and structural shifts in labor markets. These dynamics are not just altering the agricultural landscape; they are reshaping the very foundations of rural economies and societies. 

The impacts of climate change in Africa are complex and unpredictable, with significant variations expected across the region. However, two general trends are emerging: increased variability in agricultural production and a potential decline in crop productivity. These challenges pose serious threats to food security, livelihoods, and economic stability, particularly in rural areas.

In the 2014 Malabo Declaration, African leaders recognized the critical role of regional trade in driving agricultural growth and committed to tripling intra-African trade in agricultural goods and services by 2025. Achieving this ambitious goal is essential for enhancing food security, creating jobs, and fostering economic development across the continent.
