POLICY PRIORITIZATION THROUGH VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS (PPVC)

The Policy Prioritization through Value Chain Analysis (PPVC) approach is an innovative initiative led by the Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI), in partnership with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP), and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). PPVC offers governments, private investors, organizations, and other stakeholders access to advanced models, tools, and analytics for assessing and prioritizing agricultural value chains that drive Inclusive Agricultural Transformation (IAT).

The PPVC approach enables these key actors to identify value chains with the greatest potential to increase incomes, ensure food and nutrition security, stimulate agricultural GDP growth, and create jobs. It equips policymakers and investors with the data-driven insights needed to make informed decisions regarding policy, public investment, and value chain development.

Through training workshops, ANAPRI researchers are trained in essential tools such as GIS spatial context, value chain analysis, production economics (PE) modelling, and computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling. These tools are vital for shaping agricultural policies that promote sustainable growth.

PPVC is actively being implemented across several African countries, driving evidence-based decisions that foster agricultural transformation and long-term economic development.
