Chiyembekezo Chafuwa- Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD),LUANAR, Malawi


Chiyembekezo Chafuwa is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in Malawi. Her research interests include agricultural and rural development, resource economics, climate change, and food security. She is currently leading CARD’s Theme 1 on Agricultural Production and Productivity, whose main objective is to contribute to sustainable agricultural transformation in Malawi, with a focus on soil health, optimal utilization of land resources, food loss and waste, mega farms, and climate change adaptation.

With a background in statistics and applied economics, Chiyembekezo has vast experience in agricultural and food policy analysis, having worked as a Food Security Analyst with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), Research Analyst with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) under Malawi Strategy Support Program (MaSSP), and Statistician at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA). In addition to her role as a researcher at CARD, Chiyembekezo also lectures undergraduate courses at LUANAR. She holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from LUANAR, a Master of Science degree in Development and Natural Resource Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics from Chancellor College, University of Malawi.
