The Executive Director of the ANAPRI Secretariat, Dr. Antony Chapoto recently had the privilege of attending the high-level 20th Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Partnership Platform (CAADP-PP) and the commemoration of the 15th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS) held from 29th October to 1st November 2024 in Harare, Zimbabwe. This year’s theme, “Two Decades of CAADP Agenda: Cultivating the Nexus of Nutrition, Agrifood Systems and Education for Africa’s Growth,” underscored the pivotal role of these sectors in shaping Africa’s agricultural landscape.
The programme was dynamic and rich in opportunities to advance the agricultural agenda across the continent. Dr. Chapoto participated in several plenary sessions, which not only highlighted pressing agricultural issues but also provided a platform for fruitful networking with stakeholders committed to driving agricultural development in Africa.
Among the highlights was Dr. Chapoto’s meeting with Her Excellency Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment. Their discussion touched on the upcoming 11th ANAPRI Stakeholder Conference, scheduled for 26-28 November 2024 in Dakar. The conference theme, “From Policy to Practice: Strengthening Local Institutions for Sustainable Food Systems Transformation in Africa,” sets the stage for impactful dialogue on actionable, local-level approaches to sustainable food systems.
Additionally, the conversation included the exciting launch of the “Farmer Know Your Soil” initiative at the conference, in partnership with the African Union. This initiative aims to empower smallholder farmers with vital knowledge about soil health and sustainable agricultural practices, contributing to the successful implementation of the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan.
As we reflect on the discussions and initiatives stemming from the CAADP-PP and ADFNS meetings, it is clear that there is a collective commitment to nurturing Africa’s agricultural potential. ANAPRI is eager to continue this momentum and foster collaborations that will lead to impactful policy changes and sustainable agricultural practices across the continent.
