Climate Change

The impacts of climate change in Africa are complex and unpredictable, with significant variations expected across the region. However, two general trends are emerging: increased variability in agricultural production and a potential decline in crop productivity. These challenges pose serious threats to food security, livelihoods, and economic stability, particularly in rural areas.

At ANAPRI, we recognize the urgent need to understand and address these challenges. Our research, in collaboration with our member institutes, provides critical empirical evidence to inform discussions and shape policy responses to climate change's impact on the agricultural sector. By analyzing the evolving patterns of farmland expansion and degradation, irrigation practices, fertilizer use, seed programs, and the farming practices of smallholder farmers, we offer targeted recommendations that are essential for building resilience in Africa’s agricultural systems.

Our work under this theme aims to support policymakers, farmers, and other stakeholders in developing strategies that mitigate the adverse effects of climate change while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Through rigorous research and actionable insights, ANAPRI is committed to guiding Africa's agricultural sector through the uncertainties of climate change towards a more sustainable and productive future.
