
Prof. Bernard Bashaasha – agricultural policy research centre (APRC)
Professor Bernard Bashaasha is a distinguished Ugandan academic and agricultural economist currently serving as the founding Coordinator of the Agricultural Policy Research Centre (APRC) at Makerere University. With a career spanning over three decades in agricultural and development economics, he previously held the position of Principal of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). His leadership has been central to bridging the gap between rigorous academic research and practical national policy, particularly in areas like food security, climate-smart agriculture, and the adoption of resilient crop technologies for smallholder farmers in Uganda.
Academically, Prof. Bashaasha holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and an MSc from Seoul National University, complementing his undergraduate foundation from Makerere University. Beyond his university roles, he has served as an advisor to the World Food Program (WFP) and remains an active board member for several institutions reinforcing his commitment to both community development and institutional excellence.
