We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Antony Chapoto as the substantive Executive Director of the ANAPRI Secretariat, effective immediately. Dr. Chapoto brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this crucial role, having previously served as the Interim Executive Director and the Technical Chair of the Network. His extensive background in agricultural economics and research positions him as a distinguished leader in steering ANAPRI towards new heights.
Dr. Chapoto holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University, a Master’s degree from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Bachelor’s degree from Africa University. Throughout his career, he has been committed to conducting impactful research and engaging with policymakers and agriculture stakeholders on critical policy issues. As a passionate agriculture and development economist, Dr. Chapoto has conducted extensive research on agriculture and food systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to numerous publications, including peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, working papers, advisory notes, policy briefs, and infographics.
Prior to his role as Interim Executive Director, Dr. Chapoto served as the Research Director at the Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) in Zambia. In this capacity, he led numerous initiatives that significantly advanced agricultural policy in Zambia and the continent. His contributions to ANAPRI’s network through various research projects and collaborative efforts have been quite impactful.
During his tenure as the Technical Chair, Dr. Chapoto coordinated ANAPRI’s initiatives in the execution of the Comprehensive Africa Climate Change Initiative (CACCI 1.0) across two pilot countries, Zambia and Ghana. Additionally, he led research efforts aimed at contributing to the forthcoming Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit.
Under Dr. Chapoto’s visionary leadership, we are excited to strengthen partnerships, expand research capabilities, and make significant contributions to Africa’s agricultural policy landscape. His commitment to excellence will undoubtedly propel ANAPRI to new heights, bringing immense value to our stakeholders and advancing our mission to improve agricultural practices and policies across the continent.
